bumbling towards cuisine

cooking complicated things for the first time can be kinda freaky deaky (read: stressful). but for a first go, i think my eggplant parmesan lasagna came out great! (good job paul for suggesting the eggplant addition!)

as follows are my photos of me trying desperately to get the timing/arrangement of things right. i've been married four and a half years, cooking for longer than that- and i still feel like a bumblepants in the kitchen! at least it always seems to to taste fine!

boil the (whole wheat) noodles!

peel the eggplant!

bread the eggplant!

hey! i'm the eggplant after frying!

at this point, i realize i have no idea what i am doing

here, i realized that i had dirtied like, a zillion dishes already, so i start using already dirty utensils like forks to spread ricotta instead of a spatula!

cross your fingers that it tastes okay!

paul thinks it looks "rocktastic"!

our spread - the whole thing cost like, $18, including the wine and bread. and it will feed us several times!

looks good....

was good!

so ends this installment of "bumbling towards cuisine"!

how fun! i love your walk-through of the prep process! did you make this up? if so, brilliant. i need to try eggplant again. i never liked it as a child and just haven't gotten around to trying it as an adult... but i may be okay with it as i've grown to love a lot of other foods that i once thought were icky. ;)

next time try it without the noodles...the eggplant acts as a layer and without the noodles you really get the yummy eggplant flavor/texture....doesn't get as gummy the next night either
